Laboratory for Testing Thermal Properties of Materials

In the area of study of thermal properties of materials, the Laboratory for Thermal Analysis (LTA) offers services of exploring thermal and mechanical characteristics of materials. The Laboratory is equipped with the system for thermal analysis of materials which comprises several techniques for measuring mechanical and/or chemical properties as a function of temperature and/or time (DSC, TGA+DTA+MS, DMA, TMA).

Services:

  • thermal characterisation of materials (determination of heat capacity; temperature and heat of thermal decomposition, melting point, boiling point and phase changes; determination of thermal stability)
  • thermo-mechanical characterisation of materials (determination of modulus of elasticity, loss modulus, loss factor (tan delta), glass transition temperature, coefficient of thermal expansion, time–temperature superposition)
  • research of mechanism and kinetics of the reactions of thermal decomposition of materials
  • assessment of critical conditions for self-ignition of substances with an explosion hazard based on the kinematic parameters of thermal decomposition and the thermal explosion theory
  • study of ageing process and lifetime estimation of materials
